Start with a dust free door.
Paint for door panel.
Consider a paint additive to slow down drying and improve leveling.
Wipe it down with a damp rag just before painting.
Start by painting the first panel 1 on the outside of the door use a small paint brush 25mm 1 inch to paint around the edges of the panel then ideally using a larger brush 50 60mm 2 2 inches paint the panel itself starting at the top first using vertical brush strokes then without reloading the brush spread the paint across the panel using horizontal strokes and finish off with light upward strokes.
Wipe away any excess that may have crept outside of the panels in the areas.
Begin by rolling paint on the flat panels.
You have to lay down the paint and smooth it out before it becomes too sticky to work with or so stiff that brush marks won t level out and disappear.
Invest at least 10 on a quality 2 to 2 inch sash brush to paint the door and trim.
Smooth out the paint working with the grain.
Using a small roller to paint doors can greatly speed the process.
Begin by applying paint to the inside of the top panels.
Work quickly by rolling on the paint then use a brush to smooth out the paint and fill in the detailed areas around the flat panel.
Doing it in this order enables you to get a coat on the whole panel door in one sitting so you only have to have 2 3 painting sessions rather than 4 6 if you were doing one side at a time and waiting for it to dry in between.
In this video i show you how to paint your door panels useing dupli color vinyl and fabric flat black for the f350 shop truck.
Paint the second face.
Painting a door is a race against time.
If you prefer to use a roller instead consider those with microfiber roller sleeves which hold more paint and.
And i know that makes no sense as technically you have less surface area to paint than your average door but it s the glass.
Painting a glass panel door from white to black or any colour for that matter will take a lot more time than painting a standard wooden interior door.
If the door has a vertical center stile paint this next and then blend in the brush marks from the center stile when you paint the horizontal rails.
Coat the recessed areas first and then the faces of the panels.
